1. Complete the Questionnaire
Complete cat behavior questionnaire in its entirety, including the home diagram. Please do not skip any portions! Even sections that do not seem relevant may be important.
2. Setup Appointment
Once received you will be contacted to set up a home visit/phone appointment if you are outside of the metro Atlanta area and surrounding suburbs.
3. Consultation
Upon arrival to your home Ingrid will take a tour to see firsthand where litter boxes, food, and water are located as well as points of aggression or where elimination outside the litter box has occurred. Out of state clients are encouraged to submit a brief video of the home environment.
4. Homework Assignments
Ingrid will make specific recommendations and give you a cat behavior and environmental modification plan. These will vary based on the circumstances, your cats, and your lifestyle. She will also suggest other things that may improve your cat’s environment and/or make things easier on you.
5. Follow Up
Ingrid will continue to provide support and advice via phone or email for the period if time included with your consultation.
A Detailed Explanation of a Home Visit
When she arrives, Ingrid will tour your home to see where your cat’s basic needs are located and where any problems are taking place. If your cat is eliminating outside the litter box, inappropriately scratching, or having conflict, be sure to point out those problem areas.
Ingrid will use visual aides to demonstrate how to successfully treat your cat's behavior problems. She will explain why the issues are occurring and will give you a behavior modification plan to solve the problem(s) as well as some literature about your cat’s specific issue. Your family is encouraged to ask questions and take notes, but the literature will act as a reminder of what you discuss during the consultation.
It’s important to note that you will only have success in treating your cat's behavior problem if your family is willing to implement the recommended plan and environmental changes. The more open-minded and willing to work on challenges you are, the more successful the behavior modification plan will be. The problem will rarely be solved by doing one single task.
Creating a successful behavior modification plan involves assessing your cat’s physical and mental state as well as the home environment. Ingrid may recommend that your cat visit the vet prior to the behavior consultation.
